Regenerative Viticulture

Regenerative Viticulture

Regenerative agriculture has no agreed definition.  It is more about principles than rules.

The Regenerative Viticulture Foundation (RVF) describe it as as a system of viticulture approaches that rehabilitates the entire ecosystem and enhances natural resources, rather than depleting them.

All 6 of these core principles are applied to the vineyard:

  • Our Solaris, Rondo, Muscaris and Seyval Blanc grape varieties are specially selected for the Cotswold climate.
  • Only thin rows were harrowed to establish the vines, and then covered with wood-chip mulch.
  • Clovers and birdsfoot trefoil have been oversewn between the rows to add diversity.  The Arbustrum adds further diversity and Buglife guidance followed to look after the insects
  • The soil is always covered, except when the moles dig it up!
  • We are not afraid to grow out grasses and flowers high.  Long plants = long roots.
  • Our Welsh Black Cattle graze the vineyard margins and the Ouessant Sheep have the job of grazing around the vines.
